In 2008 De Jong Marinelife is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.
Back in 1958 the specialist salt water store opened its doors for the first time, under the name of Scalare. It was the start of the family business in Spijk in The Netherlands (in the municipality of Lingewaal) that continued in the same format until 1982 when the present managing director/owner Mr. Arie De Jong took over from his parents. As of that moment the retail store was expanded to include wholesale activities. Since then, the company has grown exponentially from a small regionally operating store into a large professional organization with world-wide imports and exports.
In 1990 the growing company was moved to a brand new and much larger property. The retail store disappeared completely and the company concentrated itself only on its wholesale activities. The wholesale business already operates internationally. Under the new name of “De Jong Marinelife” the company has continued to develop these activities and is widely regarded as an expert in imports and exports of small and large saltwater fish, invertebrates and coral. De Jong Marinelife's customers are now the retail outlets, museums and zoos all over Europe.
De Jong Marinelife distinguishes itself in the market by the stringent requirements and standards it sets on quality, a result of which is a degree of hygiene and applied technology unparalleled in the trade. All the animals are completely and fully acclimatized and free of diseases and parasites. That translates itself into the delivery of healthy animals in an excellent condition. Today, De Jong Marinelife is the market leader in Europe.
The company resides in the heart of the Netherlands and works with more than 40 suppliers from all over the world. This guarantees a constant supply of extremely varied marine life.
From De Jong Marinelife all animals are distributed amongst our customers with great devotion. De Jong Marinelife has a water holding capacity of more than 750,000 liters of salt water at its disposal, divided up into 12 separate systems together representing more than 700 tanks with 3,000 compartments. The supply is unparalleled in quantity and quality. There are always 25,000 animals present, representing more than 1,000 species. Because of this large and varied supply the customers can always rely on their wholesaler.
We will be glad to show you our company.
Arie de Jong, Managing Director.
